"Is this thing NATURAL?"
Hi, friends! We are excited to utilize this space to provide more information about our products, ingredients, and share some of the custom projects we are working on. This will all stay very relevant to our business... which is, obviously, bubbles!
When we began planning content for this space, we already knew what to address with our first post. Without a doubt, our most asked question when people pay us a visit is, "Is this thing natural?"
We love this question. It means you give a dang, and we love passionate people who give a dang. But we'll give you some "food for thought," if you will. Arsenic is natural, and it can kill you; grass is natural, and we know plenty of people highly allergic to grass. You see what we're getting at here? So, for the purposes of this platform, our value is sustainability. How did these ingredients get to US to make products for YOU? And from years of making, reading, and educating ourselves, natural and sustainable, for the most part, go hand in hand.
So without further ado, here's a glimpse inside what goes into our bubbles!
SPOILER ALERT - you will not find our recipe for bath bombs here. I mean, we have to keep some things sacred, right?! Also, if you're looking to get into this business, neither our recipe nor any other Pinterest'ed recipe will work perfectly for you - that will require getting your hands dirty and a heck'uv a lot of trial and error. I digress.
Now to the good stuff!
All of our bombs begin with a very simple foundation of all-natural ingredients you might just be able to find in your kitchen or bathroom cabinet. These include baking soda, citric acid, & cream of tarter. In addition, we love adding different clays for ever-so-soft skin. Our favorites include Kaolin, Bentonite, & French Green Clay.
How do we achieve those luscious bubbles and foam, you ask? Well, we've been doing this for quite a while now. We've tested and tweaked our recipe and invested in quality equipment and ingredients.
Without listing all of the products we decided against to produce the bubbles and foam, we will tell you what we decided to use - and that's SLSA. SLSA is a surfactant that is derived 100% naturally. It comes from coconut oil and (sustainable!) palm oil. It is also completely free of all sulfates.
Sometimes we use different milk powders, which are great for soothing irritated skin and producing a nice lather and foam; however, sourcing milk powders from sustainable farms is hard, so we don't use it often. DISCLAIMER - if milk powders are ever used in our products, it is clearly labeled and advertised. Please don't be alarmed, our dear vegans <3
There isn't much to say here. Our go-to oil is sweet almond, but for those with nut allergies, we opt for grape seed oil. Of course, all sustainably sourced (do we need to keep saying it?). These oils are great for replenishing and rehydrating your skin!
The Stink - FRAGRANCE:
In case you've been living under a rock, fragrance is one of the most highly-debated topics in the beauty industry. We aren't here to make you an expert or to educate you... there are plenty of people out there for that. We're here to make quality products that you can feel good about using. So to make this short + sweet - all of our fragrances are purchased from a supplier who offers botanical and essential oil blends to create synthetic-free fragrances. This is our biggest expense and it is worth it to us because safe and sustainable products are, if you haven't picked up on it yet, very important to us.
We also LOVE to incorporate different blends of pure essential oils, which is very popular in our NAKED collection. However, we don't know if y'all have checked the price of ylang ylang lately, but it ain't cheap.
If you've been following us for any amount of time, you know how much we love neutrals... all the grays, blacks, whites, etc... JUST KIDDING! We love all things loud and bright. And getting those loud and bright colors can be challenging to do sustainably, but we've connected with some really awesome co-ops that make it a little less challenging.
As natural as it gets:
We LOVE using tea and veggie powders to produce different colors in our bombs. You can find those in our NAKED collection, pictured below. These include, but are not limited to, turmeric powder, matcha powder, beet root powder, & blush clay. If you are ever concerned about color, we are happy to offer you any of these alternatives :)
Again, we aren't here to make you an expert. We are here to be transparent and tell you how we make our products so you can then decide for yourself if they are for you (and we can't imagine why they wouldn't be!).
In a nutshell, mica is a naturally-occurring mineral found all over the world, which is then coated with other natural minerals to produce pretty, shimmery colors. Aside from the products mentioned above, mica is as natural as it gets for fun colors. Sounds great, right? Well, it is. But SUSTAINABLE mica is really, really hard to find. We purchase from a reputable supplier that we trust, but when all-natural, sustainable mica is NOT available, we opt for synthetic mica and lake powders which mimic the effects of natural mica but are made in a lab. Just like natural mica, the synthetic alternatives give a glittering finish to products. Despite being a human-made substance, synthetic mica is an environmentally-friendly alternative to commonly used plastic glitters, which we DO NOT use, and it 100% safe for your skin. All of our colors are FD&C approved.
We don't use them. And that's all we have to say about that.
We often offer products with certain ingredients, such as dried teas and herbs. Our newest offering, which has been highly requested by our customers, is one we are so excited to bring to you- and that is CBD infused bath bombs and salts!
We believe in extensively testing new products before ever selling them to you, especially something as sensitive as CBD. Expect them to release in the fall of 2020!
